I am building a garage/guest house addition and purchased some air nailers to help speed up the process. I bought porter cable products and I am very happy with them. I bought a FR 350 framing nailer, a 16 gauge 2 1/2″ nailer and a 18 gauge 2″ pin nailer. They all work great and I am sure they will last a long time. THe best place I have found to buy them was tools4less.com It is a Porter Cable outlet and it even beats toolcribofthenorth.com. Check it out. I have seen the same nailers at Home Depot as well, but they are still a little cheaper at tools4less. Good luck.

I used the porter cable and love them. I remodeled a Town house, sold it bought a 50s' fixer and in now in the process of remodeling my bath room and soon to be building cabinets etc for the kitchen and the p. guns work fine for me. One of the most convienent thing (though I havent had to use one yet) is they sell the repair kits all over the place the HD, lowes
various tool retailers etc.

I have used porter cable guns and had nothing but problems, if you are looking for a good inexpensive gun that won't do ya' wrong, I think your best bet is Hitachi

Have five Porter-Cable guns plus everything else they make (almost). Absolutely no problems and they are among the least expensive.

I use Senco finish nailers and pinners. My brother asked about what guns
to buy, for the trim he is going to put himself, up after his contractor is
finished installing doors and windows. He won't be using them day in and
doy out, so he probably doesn't need top of the line guns. On the other
hand, they will be used off and on for weekend projects etc., so he will
want something that will work for more that 2 weeks. We live 1700 miles
apart, so I'm off the hook as far as doing it for him, but I feel obligated
to at least offer some decent advise
There are alot of lesser-brand guns out there, are any of them any good?
He lives on the west coast, I dont know if this is a factor in the
availibility of nails and service.
I checked the archives, and couldn't come up with anything useful there.
(I'm editing this now, and realized I should have posted this in the tools
section, but I type too slow to move it, and my wife, the teacher, would be
mortified to see me using Mike's "shorthand.")
Thanks for your help, St
*Steve,Check out the finish nailers offered by Harbor Freight. I recently purchased a 1 1/4" 18 gauge finish nailer for around $30 and a 2" 16 gauge finish nailer for about $70. I am not a professional by any means, but they have both worked great for me. I just spent the last 3 days installing MDF streamline casing in a cabin I am finishing off. Not one jam. The 2" Harbor Freight Nailer uses nails by Porter Cable which are available at most home centers (Home Depot in my area). I know Harbor Freight has numerous locations along the west coast.
