Folks –
I need to finish 10 exterior, cedar, live edge columns on a covered deck. The owners want minimal color and no-to-low sheen. They’re really only after protection. Four of the posts will be under a roof but without side protection. Six of the columns will be behind screens in the summer and glass in the winter. The house is in NH. Does anybody have experience/ideas on how best to proceed? I’m thinking some clear oil stain, maybe from Sikkens or Ben Moore. Other thoughts? Thanks.
Mark

might help make a pleasing environment for deck gatherings. Seems expensive and might need a fairly constant renewal tho'.

Any sort of penetrating oil that doesn't have a surface buildup.
Penofin, Land Ark (totally "natural"), BioShield, etc.
But honestly? Bark on cedar? I'd probably just leave it alone.
Jesse -Thanks for your response....Columns are not ALL live edge, just one or two of the corners of the square columns. Bark has been stripped. Does that change your thinking at all?
Nope, same advice. Penetrating oil that doesn't have a surface build.
