I’m sure this has been asked before, I’m finishing a wall that I want to do something differant and creative with. I’d like to make it look textured, without the mess and hassle of shooting mud with a gun. Could I add a little sand to the mud to duplicate plaster ? Or does anybody some creative ideas.
Thanks in advance. Skip

Try textured wallpaper. My wife used some with a two-color paint job that looks spectacular! And you can pull the paper if needed...
Thanks Brooks. I'll look into it.
My 50's house is done with...ground walnut shells. It's a little coarser than sand and impossible to match. You can get pearlite in a fine size that might work.
I did what Brooks did in my Bathroom. Textured wallpaper, painted and let dry, then painted with another color and quickly and gently wiped the surface off with a firm sponge. This left a 2 toned 3D paint job.

How about a pattern roller for creating embossed-like texture?
Always wanted to do a roll-on coat followed with a random dob texture using dw.
Could get interesting.

Mixing pre-mixed plaster with some water to make it slightly soupy you can create myriad textures. I've used a 3/4" or thicker roller and rolled the soupy mix onto the wall, then depending on the texture you want you can slightly flatten the resulting peaks with a flat trowel, or wait 'til the soup dries and either knock the peaks off, or sand them slightly flatter. I've matched the texture of old plaster in a century home that way. looks great. And by the way get an old sheet of drywall or plywood and practice, practice, practice.

What Brooks said or you can apply a skip texture with mud and fine sand troweled on the wall.
