Hi
I’m doing a fireplace surround and was planning a brick veneer for it. I thought it would be easy to find a brick veneer locally , but I was wrong. I have a pile of old clay bricks and was wondering if I just get a wet saw and cut these bricks or is this not as simple as i envision?
Thanks.

Greetings & Welcome to BT, first off.
"We" may need a tad more info to answer your question.
You could fill in some Profile info (click on the "update profile" there at the center top of your screen) so we'd have a general idea where you are and what your background is, etc.
If you are in a town on the west coast you might have restrictive seismic considerations to go with restrictive building officials. If you are out in the country is different than in the middle of several AHJ (Authorities Having Jusridiction). If you are in town, then the BI will likely be able to tell you what will be allowed (since it may require permit even if you DIY--my town does).
Also, "we" may need to know a bit more about your FP. Is it framed, in raw block, or raw structural brick, etc.? It could be all you need is some plywood over the framing to fasten the brick ties to. Could be more complicated than that as well.
My first question, having retrofitted more than a few FP, is what sort of foundation do you have to carry the brick?
That 4" (nominal) slab-on-grade (even a 5" 3000 psi nominal) will be too thin to carry very many courses of even face brick.
Oh, and to make your life a lot easier, measure out 5 1/2" from your existing framing, and lay out the outside face of the brick. Hitting an even multiple of either 4" or 8" will be worth the time to "finagle" the framing to suit.
