I am running a gas line to a former wood burning fireplace soon to have a gas insert. I know I need a shut off valve close the the fireplace. I am struggling with how to enter the house with the new line, from the crawl space or directly throught the outside wall? Also the position of the shut off valve, and a way to enter the old firebox without leaving pipes exposed. The old fireplace brick facade has been torn off in anticipation of a new mantel.
Anyone face similar challenges? Any advice would be appreciated!

What kind of surround will it have?
You can run it to the side and extend the surround or run it up the front to one side and hide it behind the mantle pilasters.
Thanks Bill -
It will have a wood mantle with a stone or tile "slip". I did consider your idea but am not sure how it runs behind the stone slip. Maybe I could make some sort of "channel" for that.
Thanks again.
