Hey I just want to thank you guys for sharing stuff about D Mix. We had a random sandy texture to match in some spots that had been repaired in a fancy house to earn our bread last week. I thought I had the recipe for D mix in my notepad but I didn’t – but I remembered you guys saying it was forgiving. So…
I thinned some all purpose joint compound with Zinser, added some silica sand, then added a little of the plaster of paris. MAN! that’s dramatic when the plaster of paris hits the mix! It comes alive instantly like cake icing, ready to stand up and do whatever you want. Thanks again guys. We did what we wanted.
I didn’t take pictures because I was too concerned about whether we could do it, but it feathered in great with the little roller and we subdued it with a couple/strokes of a sponge sander. I won’t forget this. And I have since searched and read up more on it here.

Can you give the measurements of the components you used?
Thanks
p.s. Please don't say you used half a Dunkin' Donuts coffee cup as I think Blue might still be reading here and he doesn't need the rise in bloodpressure.

Rez, I read just a little of that coffee cup thing. No, I just have to say this was forgiving. The texture looked like a combination of knock down and sand texture subdued with years of painting. I put about a baseball size all purpose in the bucket/ spread on a hand full of silica sand/ poured on a 2 inch by 6 inch streak of Zinser 123/ at this point it looks like sand soup. Then comes a hand full of plaster of paris - and, it was remote to me until I saw it. It stood up like cake icing. It reminds you of thin-set. One thing I was concerned about was two lights had been removed and the circles sanded smooth. It was the first thing you saw coming up the stairway to this well well lit room. I wondered how it would blend on the edges. I troweled it on and feathered and textured it all with one of those tiny rollers (1 inch x 4). You probably know all this don't you Rez, just trying to get me involved ;)

Nah, there's such a large variety of ways to go with the mix I just like to hear of others approaches is all.
Seems might be good to write it down somewhere in the event you need to copy the same mix again.
