I’m putting in a new railing – simple job, so I’m doing it myself. The balusters are going to be painted, so I ordered pre-primed. I went to put a coat of paint of before install today (using acrylic latex), but it just beads up. So, I went to the local paint store, the guy sells me his “best” (over 40 bucks a gallon!). Still beading/bad fisheyes.
So – what are you supposed to use over the factory primer? Any ideas?

did you sand before painting? if not, try a little sanding or reprime with zinserr 123 waterbase and you should be fine. Jim Z
second thought, sand then wipe down with laquer thinner, there might be some residue from packing tape etc... good luck. Jim Z
Sounds like you either have oil or silcone spray drops on the primer coat that is causing the fish eye. Best to wash off with lacquer thinner ot acetone. Might have to do this a few times. There is a product available that will help remove silicone residue. Try a good automotive paint shop.
Thanks, I tried scuffing with fine sandpaper - a little better. Off to get some laquer thinner. You'd hope that when you pay extra to get them pre-primed, you wouldn't have to do it over...
