I’ve re-hinged an old door (@1921) and it works great, except….
It always wants to close and my wife don’t like….
Any thoughts on a fix for this? I’ve thought of shimming the door to somehow balace it better. Before I do this, I want to check with the group.
Thanks,
JNF

Remove one or more hinge pins. Set pin on garage floor, whack with a hammer to bow hinge ppin. Reinstall.

That accidently happened to me years ago and every now and then I do it on purpose. I really like that feature on certain doors.
Accidents will happen...sometimes for the best.

If it is closing, it may actually not be hung perfectly.... or the jamb is out of plane/level/plumb.
Shim it lightly and see if it corrects the problem.

Yeah; whack a pin or two.
I've taken to hanging closet pre-hung doors slightly out of plumb so they close automatically - clients think it's cool; their kids think it's scary.

Yeah, one or more of the following:
-- Bend a hinge pin or two.
-- Shim under the bottom hinge
-- Drive long screws through the top hinge, in place of the standard screws, pulling the door jamb tighter to the framing.
-- Adjust the door frame relative to the plane of the wall -- the wall may be tilted slightly towards the "closed" side and the door frame may need to be slightly adjusted out of the plane of the wall to make it closer to true vertical.
-- Use a door stop.

Makes sense. So to fix the door he should first build a garage.

If it always wants to close, the jamb isn't plumb. Open the door and place a 4' or 6' level against the stop moulding on the hinge side. Hold it so that you're checking to see if the stop moulding is plumb, not the jamb itself. I'll bet you the bubble is off. If that's the case, there's not a much you can do about it; unless you want to redo the jamb to make it plumb. What you can do is to hang the door on the other side of the opening. Then it will want to stay open.

So have you bent the hinge pin yet?

You probably built the house out of plumb around the existing door : )
