I need to make my own piece of head flashing (I’m referring to the top piece that wraps around and comes down the sides) for a curb mounted skylight. This is an old size Velux that you can no longer get the factory made flashing kit parts for. The original installer had made cuts in the corners of the head piece (for some onknown reason) then caulked them with an asphalt based caulk which is now failing. I’m assuming the best way to do this is to have a crimped seem which joins the pieces that will wrap around the sides to the top piece, but if someone who’s successfully done this has any suggestions I’d be glad to hear/see them. Any sheet metal shop can easily make up a piece for you

I make my own when I install Veluxes in copper roofs. If yours is the same as the ones I use, we make a "V" with one leg 3/4" and the other about 4" (or whatever the length is down to the perpindicular surface). Fold it around the sides and squeeze the "v" closed.
Having made my own in a pinch a couple of times, I would suggest you go with Piffin's suggestion and just have a tin knocker make one for you.
That way you won't wake up at night when it's pouring outside wondering if your attempt is working or not.
