Question on a new construction.
Colorado building code says to float the walls of the basement to isolate any movement the floor slab might experience from the expansive soil in the area. I want to understand how the staircase is framed and isolated from the basement slab.
Both sides of the staircase will have floating walls. Would I just frame the staircase between these hanging walls and have a gap at the bottom of the stringers like the wall? (P.T. sill to concrete slab, 3in gap, bottom plate of stringers tied with 8in spike to allow up/down movement)
I’m a little ways until I have to tackle this but I wanted to get my head around it now.
