I want to put floods into eaves that have vented vinyl soffit (see pic). The idea is that the face of the flood winds up flush with the soffit. Does someone make such a thing? Framing is traditional, the main question is how to mount it so it looks clean and bugs, bats, etc. cant sneak in between the flood and the soffit.

What you may be looking for is an exterior recessed fixture.
Check the link to see if this is it. Any lighting store should be able to get the components.

Exterior recessed is definitely what I'm looking for. I guess better wording for my question is whether there's a special detail for vinyl soffit or not. This one looks doable; might need some kind of backer behind the soffit material.

I have had success with noting where the soffet bottom is with a few pencil marks, removing the soffet and mounting a box on blocking I install. The box should be as close to possible to the resting surface of the soffet material but not using the soffet to support it.
Sometimes this is easier to do with 2by4 blocking other times a 'bar box', one with a telescopic bar, is easiest. Once the box is in at the right elevation and sturdy enough it is relatively simple to push in the cable and remount the soffet around the box. The soffet material goes in around the box not over it. The overhang of the fixture covers any minor gaps preventing critters from getting in.
4Lorn,
Thanks. I'm guessing a bit of clearance between can and the vinyl to keep the heat off it?

I had asumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you wanted what most seem to, a standard two headed flood with or without a motion detector or photocell.
I see no great problems using a recessed can if you have room beneath the roof sheathing and understand that the light will be projected much less away from the house. Your going to end up with a pool of light on the ground and, depending on how close the can is to the wall and what sort of lamp and trim is used, some wall wash lighting. Not necessarily a bad look.
As far as a mounting a can I would use an IC, insulation contact, unit
and mount it flush with the vinyl. I would trim the vinyl away from the can slightly making sure the the trim covered any edges.
Yup, recessed rather than the standard 2-headed deal. This project is on a long list; I'll post some pics when I get it done.

I would add a detail to the top six inches of your wooden post to mount the light.
