Ok, I know some of you don’t like giving structural advice, so here’s the deal…I’ll explain what I plan to do, and you tell me if i”m nuts. Doing a two-story addition to a house, approx 20’x x25′ with master bedroom and bathroom on the second floor. I was planning on using #2 2×12 16″ oc for the second floor joists, which will span 20′-1″ (this dimension is fixed by the connection to the existing house). Will this work, or will there be too much bounce? Should I consider something else? The customer wants the first floor to be completely open, so I can’t add any bearing walls or columns in the room.
