Southern Yellow Pine. 106-years old. Seventy-five layers of paint. Are we nuts?!Well, it’s down to bare wood and ready for final sanding. Or is it? There are some large cracks between the 3-1/2 inch wide boards that deserve filling. The floor will get a few coats of polyurethane only. What do we fill the cracks with? Any suggestions?

How large are the "cracks"?
The larger "cracks", really openings between the boards, that we are worried about are on the average 1/8" wide. In some cases, the top part of the groove has broken away, leaving a larger gap.
One of our concerns is that the wood moves from season to season, so we need a filler that will expand and contract with the weather, and we do want the floor to look good.
TimberMate filler in a color to match [they do a wide range of colors]
Use it direct from the tub for any joint over 1/8" wide, then dilute with water and trowel fill the entire floor before the last sand.
