Time to replace our kitchen, dinette, rear hall & powder room flooring, I have armstrong vinyl for the last 18 years & it has held up very well, but its time.
The wife & I like wood but both agree with our life style & the wear & tear factor and crushed limestone driveway, its just out. Vinyl is out do to we just can not find anything to our liking & like I said, “18 Years”. Laminates, No way, Not to offend anyone but we just do not like the look or hollow feel , durabilty seems good, however I’ve seen a lot of open joints with the stuff. Ceramic may be in although pretty labor intensive & cold. Heat mat sounds good although cost wise, about 450 sq. ft. this will add up. I have 5/8 OSB sub floor & 5/8 AC with the current vinyl over that now, this is glued & nailed to 2x10s 16″oc on 13.5′ span. All is very solid.
We were shopping & found Congoleum’s ” Dura Ceramic” http://www.congoleum.com/res-products.php?product_line=duraceramic
Have any of you used this product & have any thoughts.
Thanks for any input you may have.
Paul.

I have seen it installed over a substrate that the people thought was unsuitable for ceramic...anyway...i thought it was ceramic until i asked them..."is that ceramic or porcelain" and they said "actually it's dura-ceramic" It looks amazing and there was no cracking in the grout lines although i understand you can have the option of not grouting it.
Probaly not the labour cost also that ceramic has.
go for it!
