I have a tiny utility knife slice in the vinyl flooring and was wondering if anyone has a good idea to fix this without replacing the entire piece.

What IMERC said. First (right away!) tape some plastic or something over the cut to keep it clean, then ask the flooring dealer what sort of seam sealer you need for it. (Hopefully you know the brand of flooring.)
