Flying Gorillas and HD Black Friday…..
Went to HD this am to pick up some sheet goods to begin outfitting my e250 and of course…………..yeah, even HD has Black Friday.
So heads up. Rigid 5 hp 12 gal vac for $30.00.
Gorilla 20 position 17 foot ladder thingy for $89.00. Picked one up. They were literally flying out of the store; I could see the pile diminish each time I strolled by!
Buy of the day woulf be the Rigid Table saw with the SUV? stand for $299.00. Don’t need it, but based on some reviews here it was hard to pass up. Could probably sell it for a profit down the road.
Most of the rest I saw was the usual HD junk on sale. Was hoping for a Dewalt tile saw…………
So that’s it kiddies, get’em while their hot.

I just got back from HD myself. Bought a 5ft Husky fiberglass ladder for $18, a 12V Ryobi cordless drill for $20, the $30 Ridgid vacuum, four poinsettas at $1.86 each, the last two Livonia 24" undercab hardwired flourescent fixtures for $4.50 each; among other things.
I went to the Brewster HD this morning, almost no one there. Picked up the $30 vacuem and the $97 dewalt 18 v drill.
Don't need another drill but I need the batteries and charger, and thats cheaper than buying them separate.
I didn't know you were in the area...............maybe you were on your way out as I was coming in.
I work as PM for Southeast Kitchens and Baths; ever hear of us?
I live right in Southeast. We might already know each other![email protected]
Can't say I've heard of your company before.
I am in South Salem, all my work is in Bedford, Lewisboro and lower Fairfield. Are you down this way much?
Caanan, Redding, Ridgefield, North Salem, got one coming up in Katonah, we were down in Armonk/Whipoorwill twice this year.
Yorktown, Somers, Heritage Hills, Cortlandt, seems to be the center of where our work is.
Backlog is not what it was this time last year. We are booking more and more non kitchen/bath work. How does it look by you? You work for yourself?

picked up ryobi 12v lion kit for 79 , great little screw gun .nice and light and compact used it yesterday and today .
Based on all the hoopla here I took a ride down the road to HD, early this morning. I wanted to finally see the Rigid table saw on the folding stand...then look around for the unadvertised bargains.
As others have noted, it'd be a nice first saw or replacement for a heavier one that might better serve in the shop.
After going over this one pretty carefully I concluded that I should just give my two 10" lightweight job saws a smile of gratitude and call them good enough. They don't have that wide table but I'm happy enough using an aluminum rip guide and a skill saw for full sheets of plywood. If I need more room for a special job I'll buy a table extension.
My job saws have their own portable stands which are rock solid, whereas I have some doubts about Rigid's light duty wheeled cart.
A carpenter acquaintance recently tore up a finger because the saw and the workpiece began vibrating badly while feeding and threw the piece back out. It was all because the saw wasn't firmly mounted.
I can move either of my saws just as easily using my wheelbarrow. Just pop the saw off the stand, put it in the bottom of the wheelbarrow and place the stand over the top. Throw in the skil saw, the tool bucket and the cords too. Done.
Anyways I found a couple of small appliances on sale which'll make nice gifts so I satisfied my curiosity and did some Christmas shopping too.
HVC,
I've heard many good comment on the Rigid here. It rips 24". At $299.00 the deal is a good one. If I didn't have the Bosch I probably would have bought it.
You always carry a wheelbarrow with you?[email protected]
Yeah I know everyone's on the band wagon at $299. That's why I made the trip to look at it.
I'm asking the one question that I believe needs clarifying because kickbacks aren't well understood or easy to predict. They have bitten a lot of guys badly, unexpectedly. Loss of fingers, even eyes.
Yes, I keep an old wheelbarrow on my jobs along with a broom and shovels for clean up, moving various materials/tools.
I have my Bosch 4000 saw mounted on the Ridgid wheeled stand.Seems like the stand is getting a few knocks around here, but IMO, It's a helluva stand.I store my saw vertically strapped to the side of my trailer - the Ridgid stand is SO much more compact than the Bosch Gravity version. The Ridgid stand is solid as can be, and relatively easy to open and close with not much effort.I've ripped full 4x8 sheets by myself with my setup, although these days I'll use my Festool setup for that type of work. The ridgid stand could use a few sandbags on the front bottom for those times, but in general I'd say it's a winner due to it's small footprint.I'd reccomend one to anyone for any job site saw.Considering I paid $125 for my stand alone, that Ridgid saw at $299 has got to be considered a steal and possibly the best deal going on a jobsite saw right now.JT
Strange ccombo - IMO, the Bosch stand is far easier to operate.

Maybe so, but you fold that sucker up and stand it upright and it takes up a boatload of space.Plus, I bought the Ridgid stand 5 years ago - way before the Gravity stand came out. When it was released - I wanted to like it, cause I like my tools to match, but it wasn't worth the $150 to change over to it due to the space issues. Plus - at the store, I could never figure our how to fold the damn thing up!JT
True. It is almost counter-intuitive until you get to learn it.

My backlog is about the same as last year, but last year I had 4 guys working for me , this year only 2.
Right now I am doing a bunch of small stuff, bigger stuff waiting on permits.
Your truck lettered? I'd look for ya. I am a black chevey, aluminum racks, 1 toolbox, and a Samoyed in the back seat.
The company white GMC van is Palladino Building (Labor &install for Southeast K&B). Bosses white p/u has a decal in the rear window otherwise we all drive our own vehicles.
I won't miss the Samoyed. What's the name of your co?[email protected]
Went to HD and asked for the special they emailed me about: buy the DeWalt jig saw, and get the random-orbit palm sander free. They didn't know what I was talking about. Went home and printed the deal from my computer. Stopped at Lowes on the way, they had the same deal, no questions or arguments. So got me a new jigsaw and an extra palm sander. And some sanding discs for my grinder.View Image “Good work costs much more than poor imitation or factory product†– Charles GreeneCaliforniaRemodelingContractor.com

Based on a posting here, I got to the local HD at about 0730, there were only about 10 on hand, I got 2, guy behind me in line had one - only 4 remaining when I finished check out. I got the one with a pink tag - "Black Friday Special - Do not display before 11/23/07". I was feeling very smug.
Went home - DW decided that today is the day to hang our outdoor Christmas lights. Everything went well until we got to a tree outline do-dad made from re-bar with mini lights on the perimeter - lights don't work. We put our lights up every year about this time and keep them in stealth mode until about 12/14.
Fiddled with the light string for about 15 minutes and pronounced it dead - back to HD (only about a mile) - bought new light string - GE, 70 lights for $1.49 - special green tag - "As long as supply lasts."
Strolled past where the ladders were this morning - there were at least a dozen on the floor - wonder how many were still in the back and further, how many of those ladders they sold nationwide today?
Jim
Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
how many of those ladders they sold nationwide today?
I don't know but the MFers were soldout by the time I got there.
First time I ever went someplace for a BlackFriday special. Friggin roads and people were nuts. Remembered why I always declined to venture forth on that day before.
Don't care how good a deal is. Sometimes it's not worth the hassel if you have to race for a price.
look ugly I'll wrassle you to the ground and bled yer nose for the right to buy that last flashlight!!!
