Hey guys I am building a new house and have been planning on using 1/2 ” foam on all ext walls. (even before this current issue came out.) I was thinking of installing the foam after the doors and windows (Andersons) were installed and then using vinyl siding. By installing the foam after the windows I eliminate the need for extension jambs on all of my windows. My question is.. is there any water issue having my window surround proud of the window a problem( mainly the bottom) Any thoughts?

You can get extension jambs up to 7" on Andersens or around that. Why not get a longer jamb and put the foam on first?
I am not sure what your siding is but the foam will make your siding stick out past your window, then you need exterior trim like Azek or something.
What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
I think it's a bad idea.

long over due window extentions came to a grand total of 150.00$ for the whole house so I will definetly go this route and not worry about the headake that could have been encounter the other way.
Another thing to think about the foam that I am going to use is ISO panel but instead of the foil face this foam has a very thick and tough woven fiberglass face. Once you install the windows can you trust the window tape to stick to the fiberglass type face of the foam? Or would you have to set the window and window tape first and indstall the foam over the window tape? Btw has anyone used this type of foam?
yep, definitely.

You can use foam and wider siding J-channel. It is done all the time... I think 1/2" can be accomodated but I'd have to check to be sure.

I was planning on using 3-1/2" surround (vinyl) around the windows and to consider just getting larger extension jambs I would have to see how much of an up charge that would be I'll contact my window place and see if they can tell me tomorrow and I'll post the replies.
That vinyl surround is nice stuff but it's labor intensive. The whole window trimmed out right with surround will have 10 individual pieces. They even make a crown molding that fits in the top piece of the surround, looks very nice when it's done. What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
OK, that takes care of the sides. Whatcha gonna do at the bottom where the water is being led into the wall?

Window sill should extend well more than a half inch... the top edge of vinyl siding should have sill strim installed and for extra insurance caulked neatly below the window sill.

He plans on using vinyl surround. It's mitered on the corners. Looks like a painted 2x4 on the flat around the window. There probably won't be any sill.
It snaps into a starter strip like siding does. What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
Then perhaps he should use another product and then channel entirely around the opening or channel top and sides with sill trim as described.
Either way, some neatly applied caulking should do the trick.
My original suggestion was to use wider j-channel to accept the foam and the disding... I know they make it like that.... it is common stuff.

yes, you'll create a tremendous amt of work to detail the window trim so as to keep the rain out of the wall
