formula for estimating face-frame lumber
Hey, everyone.
Is there a rough formula out there for estimating board footage for cabinet face-frames? For example, let’s say I’m building thirty feet of drawers and cupboards….
thanks,

Google for Cutlist plus, I can't acess it from this computer right now, I think it is free from woodweb.com. Great little program.

C'mon now. Won't it depend on how the cab modules are sized, how many units are drawer stacks, drawer-over-doors, heights of wallcabs, etc.?
But let's just try a little bit of plain old conceptual estimating.
Assume your modules average 15 inches. Also assume your wallcabs are all 36 high.
Let's say each basecab has a top rail, one midrail, and a bottom rail, and the tops have only a top and a bottom. That's five lineal feet of rails per foot of cab run, uppers and lower. With the bottom stiles at 32 inches and the tops at 36, totaling 5.66 feet every 15 inches, that amounts to 5.66/1.33 or 4.25 feet of stiles per foot.
So I am adding this up and saying that there are about 9.25 lineal feet per foot of faceframe stock.
