Lexan glazing in the windows, steel doors with any windows too small to crawl through, etc.

I am pretty pessimistic about making anything with a key lock break in resistant.
After locking my keys in my gang box one day I experimented with an electric drill and a 1/4" bit and was a bit depressed to see how quickly, quietly and easily a lock could be opened.
I would start by deciding how you would lock the entry door and if it involves a conventional lock I would conclude anyone who wants to get in, will get in.

The best protection is a bunch of nosy neighbors and a good neighborhood watch program. And a big dog
