We are building a house on the side of a hill and the back of the house (42′ across) is going to be on columns (and a large full length beam) sitting on a grade-beam footer. I am torn between using 8×8 PT columns or going with steel columns. Since I have some parts of the house cantilevering out over 3′, I am going to have kickers coming back into whatever columns I use…which further makes me think I should just go with the 8×8’s. Any opinions? Thanks.
