I am needing to replace sections of a foundation (step wall) in 8-10 foot increments at a time while I jack and shore sections of the house above. I have read several posts about people who have done this. My question is how stong is the final foundation going to be if it is constructed with cold joints between each interaval of new foundation? Since you cant do a continuous pour, it seems like its not going to be real strong?
Thanks

If yopu form each section with keys that lock the sections together, you can end up with a good strong foundation. The problem you are facing is the possibility of groundwater leaks at all the joints.

I glue re-bar into the existing concrete I;m pouring to, costs a good bit, but let's me sleep at night. then I run a piece of 1/4 inch bar vertically tied to those stubs[ about 16 inch protrusion] right up against the old 'crete. tie a bentonite clay "rope" on to this right tight against the old crete. the 1/4 inch is only ther to hold the rope in place, needs to be in the middle of the wall.If you're worried about water intrusion at the joints you also should think about the rope nailed to the footing down the middle of the wsll before you form it up. jim
