Just had a foundation poured with beam pockets on both ends–one is 11’10” the other 14’10” from the INSIDE wall. I know what happened here, I guy measured from inside the form, the other from the outside; so now I have beam pockets that are 8″ out of alignment. I can deal with 1, 2, or even 3″ out, but 8″? I haven’t talked to the concrete guys yet (this is memorial day), but my mind says that to fix it, I need to switch from joists crossing over two beams to beams sitting on top of the wall with joist hangers. Does anyone have a better solution for this? Also, what should I really expect the concrete guys to do? I’m thinking pay for the labor for all work done so far, plus the new beams. Sound fair?

Hi Jason,
Not to worry, it's not the first time nor will it be the last time that this happens.
All the contractor has to do is get his trusty quickcut saw with a concrete blade and cut out a new pocket and then he will chip it out with an electric chipper. It will take him less than 15 minutes to do.
Relax, have a good day off and tomorrow, explain the error to the contractor and I can't see that he wouldn't want to make things right.
Hope this helps
Gabe
*Gabe's got it right.
*Thanks for the information. The concrete guys came out with a huge saw, spent about 30 minutes sawing, then 30 minutes sharing coffee and donuts. I was able to slide the beams over and continue.
