Hi Guys:
Wondering if I could get some pointers on framing this area out. It will be used as a simple garden tool storage area. I can handle the front part no problem, but this other side (direct front in pic) has me baffled.
From right to left the vertical height goes from 89 inches to 54 on both “pilings” respectively. I don’t want to do any digging of soil away from the left piling as it will affect support for the above deck area.
Thanks for any tips!

what are you going to use for siding? Same as the house? or lattice already evident on the right side int he pic?

HWGuy,
Scribe a 4x6 or 6x6 to fit the rake angle. Mid support if needed.
Studs cut on bevel to fit.
Nice cabin!

Is this a carpenter's test?
hehe... it's legit I think. I saw his other thread after I posted quesions here.

"Is this a carpenter's test?"
It could be. As per the question. It will be covered with PT plywood then the lattice. I never thought about the ceiling either as it's exposed through the deck above. I was figuring on installing PT plywood again with visqueen sandwiched in between the joists and allowing some kind of channel so the rain water doesn't sit in there.
Possible idea?
Pics later. thankx
I saw your link to your blog in your other thread after posting this question. Welcome to GA although a bit late. 1 place you gotta explore is the Cohutta Wilderness which, if I'm reading your blog correctly, you're not too far from. Drive in as far as you can go on the FS to the trailheads and start hiking. Panther Creek Falls, Conasuage River, Jacks River and it's Falls are all great places to see. Good pig hunting around there.
for the deck do as I think a previous poster suggested. Run a 2x6 on the angle of the grade between teh 6x6's. You can add a strong back to it (2x4 perpidicaular to the 2x6) but you'll still need the support it probably mid span. Run studs vertically. All wood should be PT due to exterior exposure as well as out termite issues. See the attached pic.
BTW Nice place and good work.

Just noticed the reply. I'm not a very good hiker but have been up in that area, quite beautiful! When someone mentioned rake I thought of this...recent block link entry.

There's nothing attached to the 2 x 4's on the bottom as I just figured.."well that must be the rake part someone mentioned." All lumber is pressure treated. I am going to coat the studs at the bottom with a tar that will help with any moisture that lies against it. Some soil will be backfilled and PT plywood will be coated as well where the soil lies.
How observant are you? Almost done the new project, but I really didn't think about one thing. Can you see it from your house?
access?
