I would like to frame a small gable roof above my house front door.
The trick is that I’d like to avoid posts (straight or slanted) and the
room behind the door has a cathedral ceiling (no ceiling joists to attach
cantilever).
The overhang should stick out 2ft and is 3.5ft wide. It is perpendicular
to the main roof right above the door (door is below eaves).
Any ideas?

Tie it back in with bolts instead of nails if you have snow loads...glue sheathing and it will be bomb proof....

*Aj's solution will probably work-your connection (carpentry) skills are critical however. Laminate a second layer of sheathing, instead of simply adding a 24" piece. The cantilevered ply will hold a lot, if you've framed the substructure tight. I don't think you would get and engineer to approve this method, but experience has taught me that you don't always need an engineer...blue
