Framing in a gas fireplace

I want to frame in a gas fireplace.  The product calls for a noncombustible header.  can I use the same metal studs I will fram the walls with?

They also call for non-combustible facing for several inches on all sides before I switch to drywall.  Is there a non-conbustrible drywall product?  I have heard that plster can be used, but what would I back it with….wire mesh?  Any ideas on thickness required if I can use plaster?
