Well here's my thoughts. The first pic shows a rubber boot with lots of silicone goop, which I thought was bad form, and the second pic shows evidence of a copper flashing, but it just doesn't look right to me, and what's that white stuff between the pipe and the slate? Hey, I admit I know less about slate roofing than I do about wimmen.

That stuff is the solder where the pipe cover meets the roof flat copper sheet.

Yeah, but that oxidized copper looks like a length of stove wood.
Just sayin'

The plastic boot with white pipe showing .
Walter,
Thanks for the photos. We're going to have to get you to start posting something less contentious, like bunny rabbits :)
Was thinking of you yesterday. A blog I read at the Atlantic features a "From your window" photograph of the day, and was I surprised to see it was from Vinalhaven.
Best,
Steve

Steve ,
I wished that screen wasn't in the way of the view so I could tell where on the Island that was taken .
Got a name for the person who snapped that shot ??
Where are some more baby pictures ???
Best , Walter
Walter,The whole premise of the view from your window is to include the window itself, alas. And, at least to the blog readers, the photographer is anonymous. I could send in a request and see if I can get some more info if you are curious.Best,

Chuck ,
There are a sequence of during pics that I didn't post .
I was in Bangor this morning at a wireless cafe and had some pictures on the laptop I had with me . The rain stopped soon after I got there so I was able to get back to work .
