We have a 8×24 cedar front porch. The front 6×6 cedar posts where suppose to be wrapped in cultured field stone tapered from the ground up to railing height. The porch is built and the stone person suggested building a box around the posts to the required width and putting hte stone around the box. The builder is worried about the stone overlapping hte deck boards and rotting in the future. Any ideas on what to do. We wanted a front porch with a craftsman style look.

It would seem to me that you could detail the flashing at the top of the stone and deal with his justifiable concerns at the base and still get the look you want. That being said, who's responsibility will the end product be? Builder or you? If it's the builders responsibility then you'd better listen or be prepared to sign off on it. Many times the right amount of thought and technique can achieve a visual design. Sometimes it's better to opt for the proper and time-tested way. Not seeing it, I can only guess that any veneer over those posts could be made to work with a long life. Wood, stimualated stone or whatever still needs to be done properly for any kind of guarantee. Can the builder figure out the details? Best of luck.
