I’m putting a traditional front porch on my own house and I’m undecided about the flooring. I want to use tongue and grove but having replaced and repaired more than a few rotted T&G floors on porches…
2x or decking isn’t really what I want for the traditional look
This is what I want to do.
The joist are sloped away from the house. I plan on using ice and water shield strips on top of the joist before installing the 1×6.
I want to use 1×6 installed perpendicular to the house as a sub floor with 1/4″ spacing between.
Then oak or pressure treated T&G installed parallel to the house.
Any hints or comments??

Personally I would cross block the joists and run your finish flooring (w/o subfloor) perpendicular to the house. Prime/seal all 6 sides, keep water out from under the porch and provide adequate ventilation, maintain the finish and best of luck. Old fir if you could find it, was the norm for NW. Oh.
If you lay another floor over the 1x6, I think you'll have earlier problems than with the flooring alone.

Ditto what Cal said, only I would recommend Tendura, which is a composite T&G material similar to the fir flooring. Pricey, though, but captures the classic look whatout some of the inherent problems.

There's a composite t&g called Tendura that might be worth looking into. http://www.tendura.com/ Haven't used it but there may be folks on the board who have and can comment on it's virtues/ vices etc.

For exterior decks, DO NOT USE SUBFLOOR
You'll condemn yourself to replacing rotting decking agaion too soon
