Hi all,
I need a source for the “galvanized standoff plate” found on page 93 of the August/September 2002 issue of Fine Homebuilding (issue #149).
I’m working on fixing a slumping porch corner that rests on a GIANT piece of bedrock (one big stone) and have been agonizing over how to keep the new (pressure treated) beams and posts off of the rock. The problem is that historically, all rainwater, snowmelt, etc. has run across the rock and against the wood that supports the porch. Hopefully the new pressure treated structural elements will hold up forever, but I’d like to keep them from staying in direct contact with the “big rock”… yet I only have a MAXIMUM of an inch to work with (between the beam and the rock) so a pier block, etc. will not work.
When I was reading the article in FH #149 about porches and braces, I spotted the galvanized standoff plate as the perfect solution to my problem!
But there was no vendor listed and the only thing I can find that is close is the PBV post base by Simpson StrongTie http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors_list/PBV.html
Any ideas?
Thanks a milllion!
