I’m throwing this out for a second opinion….
I have an old home with the original wide plank pine floors (I think the wood is referred to as ‘pumpkin pine’ or close to that). A previous owner filled the gaps between the boards, which are as much as 3/8-inch in some places, with wood filler putty. Of course, the putty is all coming loose.
My plan is to remove the old putty, insert some backer rod, then fill the gap with black self-leveling sealant (like Sikaflex or something like that). I’m not necessarily trying to make the filler flush with the floor, but just want to close or seal up some of the larger gaps. Anyone tried this? Does this make sense?
Any advice appreciated….

It's been done before, ends up looking like a boat deck. Your joints will have to be clean. I wouldn't say Sika is self leveling though. I have seen jobs where the whole floor was sanded then screeded with Sika, sanded again. Looked great except for the smaller joints where the sander tended to tear the sika out of the joint. The other issue is differences in expansion and contraction of materials. I quizzed an experienced floor sander on it once. His recommendation if using this method is to sand and finish polish the floor, then mask the joints and Sika. That way the joints don't get any finish on them and there shouldn't be any issue with edge bonding.
