I’m ready to install my garage door.
At the moment, the garage door opening is rough framed by 3x 2 x 6 supporting 3x 2 x 10 + ply wood header, a couple inches bigger that the actual door.
Do I need to do more framing? The garage must be drywall (5/8 f.c.) Should I do that before installing the garage door.
Does anybody know of a site showing installation method?

what you should do is put up some 2x4,s up both jambson the inside laying flat - run them all the way to the ceiling - or 5/8 shy so you can slip the drywall ceiling in. Run another 2x across the header ( again on the inside laying flat) and also put a block in the center of the opening ( preferably 2x10) for a place to mount the torsion springs. Make sure you nail the He!! out of the bottom side of the spring pad - this is where all the tension is pulling from. Don't worry about the 2x4 laying flat around the opening, you will have doorstop to cover it. You can mount the door tracks to the 2x4's laying flat on the inside of the jambs. e-mail me at [email protected] if you have any other questions. - Good Luck.
Bouyhunter,
I'm getting ready to also mount two doors - 9'x8'. Any suggestions/tips/tricks of the trade you could suggest?
I've built the garage myself, but I'm wondering if the door & opener installation is something I should just hire out.

Wivell,
My personal opinion is to hire it out. This is one of those areas where the frustration is not worth the small savings of doing it yourself. My brother does it for a living and I have worked with him in the past. For the people that do it regularly its a snap. I can install an opener in 45 min. My brother can do it in 30. I have heard of laymen taking up to 8 hours. The smart ones quit after 4 and then hire someone. To get back to the original point, I'm sure you can do it yourself. You must weigh your time and frustration vs. the savings. Let us know how it turns out and time yourself.

I've done the rough framing for my door (3 2x6 supporting a 3 2x10 header). Do I need to install anything else or will the garage door attache to the 2x?
I will install someking of jamb (1x6 pine covered with aluminium) to cover the 2x6 and to receive the weatherstripping. Do I need to install the jamb before I install the door or after? Do I need to install any other framing before installing the door.
The garage needs to be drywall (5/8 fc) I would like to install the doors before drywalling to keep the weather out. Is that possible?
