I have a garage door that will not open with the two remotes, new batteries are installed. The back of the opener mechanism has seven sliding pins (three position) but the remotes have only six. I might be off a number but the remote has one more than the opener. This is an older craftsman. How do I reset or reprogram this thing?

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

You might want to consider upgrading to a rolling code transmitter/receiver system. Sears was selling one that was a real simple install -- plug in to an outlet and connect the pushbutton wires to the terminals.
