I’m building a garage. The customer wants a Victorian look, with a specific design. The design means that the doors could best be built (custom doors) either as rolling doors or the old kind that llifted as one piece, rather than the modern segmented lift door.
But they also want automatic doors. Are there automatic door openers for rolling doors, or for the one-piece lift doors?
TIA

Bob,
I've never seen an opener for the old one piece garage door. That doesn't mean it does not exist, but I've never seen one. If you find one, let me know. I've got the old style one piece door on my old house. No opener.

*Bob- Living in California I see many one piece slab garage doors with openers, they are very common and any garge door installer from the yellow pages should be able to help you. The thing that you need to be concerned about in NJ is snow. When the snow piles up in front of a slab door it is very hard if not impossible to open.Jim
*I have a catalog from a California company called something like Holmes-Haley that makes hardware for garage doors, including one piece. They specify certain models that will accept openers. There was an article in FH a while back about garage doors, and that's where I got the name. If you don't find out anything else, e-mail me ([email protected]) and I'll get the details for you.
