For an unheated 12 foot by 12 foot 2×4-framed garden shed, to be built in way upstate New York where our house footers will be 48 inches down, what is suggested for a its foundation and slab? I am thinking of stripping the topsoil, laying a crushed stone bed, and forming and pouring an edge-haunched mesh-reinforced 5″ slab, where the turned-down edges will be 10″ wide by 14″ deep, well reinforced. This, plus drain tiling to ensure the rain off the roof goes safely away. Any thoughts? Overkill? BTW, a pic of the framing is attached. The roof trusses shown are sketched in for general arrangement. My truss guy will do the detailed design.
