The glass on our gas fireplace in our townhouse is very cloudy. I’ve heard regular glass cleaners can lead to problems.
What do you use/recommend for cleaning without after effects. I’ve got it off already no problem and all the brass with be flat black before it goes back on.
Thanks…

I don't know whether it will lead to problems, but I tried window cleaner and couldn't get all of the baked on stuff off with it. The store that sold me my fireplace gave me a can of fireplace cleaner, and it worked very well. Try a fireplace store.
oven cleaner?
I've seen oven cleaner recommended before.

Is it cloudy or sooty? When our new fireplace was installed, it produced soot until we had the installer come back and adjust the flame. It now produces no soot or anything else on the glass. We just used Windex to clean it.
Nothing with ammonia in it. Most of the glass is actually ceramic. Use the proper cleaner.
Why not get your requested information from the horse's mouth.
Who manufactured the gas fireplace?
Call them (I'm sure their phone # is available online). Ask for technical support and you have your answer. And, you may also find out if it is normal (as was suggested by an earlier post) for your stove to cause such clouding.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I guess I'll see what the manufacturer recommends before proceeding. I thought someone might have a foolproof method that was tried and true for my situation.
I think the old wives solution is a damp newspaper dipped in ashes.

Yes I have heard that and found it in the searches here as well. I believe it only applies to wood fireplaces and not natural gas. In this case I don't have any ashes to dip in.
Well, how hard is it to burn something? No wood laying around?

Well when you live in the middle of a region like this with burning restrictions it probably would be hard. It's more so that the clouding on a natural gas fireplace is different than that on a woodburning fireplace.
I actually got it pretty clean with a cut paste for autobody applications and primed the brass for the high heat black enamel tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works once I've had it up to temp a few times.
Well I've got it back together and up to temp a few times. The glass is about 95% cleaner and I am satisfied with the out come. Thanks to those with suggestions.
