either or.
"most" .. prefer vertical ..
I prefer horizontal.
here's one for ya though ... for safety ... the ground "should" go up.
if U drop anything ... where's it gonna hit first?
and short first?
so ... theory is ... ground up ... which .. kills the whole "smiley face" arrangement everyone likes to see. The mouth is most effective on the top.
if horizontal ... wide lip ... up.
Might be best solved by asking which way the J Box fits best? If high ... near a drawer? If horizontal, will the drawer be in the way?
Then again ... as much as I'm for making the design decisions around the house ... I'm thinking I'd just buy a brown fixture with a brown cover plate and late her with ...
with conditions.
just this once.

Which does the wife say?
Split the difference. Mout it on the 45.
Comprimise is the heart of a marriage.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I say vertical! Thanks guys, this has been humourous. Sort of a toilet paper install question. Now to get the nerve to cut the cabinet!http://www.etherhuffer.typepad.com
I say vertical unless, the DW doesn't like it, it won't fit,..........
Nerve to cut....... Get out the blue release type masking tape, cover the area, load up with one of those snazzy "cut on the down-stroke" blades in the jig saw, mark it and cut.
One of two things will happen - it will work perfectly or it won't - outcome will be the same no matter how long you wait to do it.
Ahh, there's always those huge oversized cover plates......
Luck,
Jim
Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Measure FIVE times! Consider clearances for the box and cable.
