Well, I’ve participated in several Home Depot bashings in here and they’re still way down on my list of preferred stores, but I feel duty bound to give one of their employees a big attaboy.
In ’90 – ’91, I replaced all of my single pane aluminum windows with Jeld Wen or Viking windows bought at HD. There were a few hassles along the way, but everything worked out well.
Thursday evening SWMBO told me that I had really botched up my window washing job and that she could see streaks. In typical alpha-male fashion, I informed her that the freaking streaks were probably on the inside and would go away when (if?) she ever held up her end of the window washing chores. About 15 minutes later, she told me that whatever it was, it was between the panes. When I checked, it was obvious that the low-e coating was failing.
We looked high and low, but couldn’t find the receipt, so Friday I went to HD and told my tale – fully expecting to get blown off. To my surprise, the millworks guy told me that it shouldn’t be a problem. Since I thought it was a Jeld Wen window, he called Jeld Wen and found out where to look for a manufacturing date and code number. I was to call him back with the info and he would send in the paperwork to get the window replaced.
When I got home, I discovered that it was a Viking window. I called him with this info and he again said “No problem” and gave me the Pella customer service number. After a ten minute conversation (without listening to any bad elevator music), they told me that they would have a new center section made up and I could expect to have it installed within two weeks.
There’s still time for someone to mess this deal up, but I gotta say that I’m impressed. The HD guy went out of his way to help me identify my window, then helped me contact the right people. The Pella customer service lady was absolutely top notch. No hassles or aggravation. She asked me for two measurements and told me that she would get the order out that day.
I’m not ready to start singing the praises of HD, but maybe there’s some hope after all. – lol

shocking is all I can say, but some of the local lumber yards have equally poor service in my experience.

Good for you!
They'll probably be moving that guy over to the plumbing department, of which he knows nothing about, tomorrow!

I went to HD today, and the automatic cashier. 'Please place item in bagging area" "unauthorige item in bagging area," "unauthorige item in bagging area"Look you stupid computer its a ten foot 2x4, let me stick in the coin slot so you can feel it.....the people might be stupid at Lowes but at least they smarter than the HD computer..Haga su trabajo de fricken
Yes you will, occasionally, find people at the big boxes that are actually able to drive themselves to work.
I have a kitchen designer at the local Lowes that came in on his day off (the only day I had available) and spent 2hrs laying out my kitchen and shopping for finish materials with me.
Ironically, the next day I tried to tell this to the store manager. After waiting for 10 minutes for her to come out of her office (I could see her in there talking with a few employees that came in and out), I gave up.
Funny when you cant tell the manager they have good people under them cause their too busy holding down their office chair to come out and talk to a customer.

That's a good story, but I can top it.......
Sometime this past spring, an HD employee actually helped me load some sheetrock into my cart (about 4 sheets)!
Oh, and how could I forget, maybe a couple of weeks ago, another employee actually asked me if I needed help finding something!
"Oh, and how could I forget, maybe a couple of weeks ago, another employee actually asked me if I needed help finding something!"Comments like that will get you drug tested or a visit with the people in white coats or both..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
