Wondering if someone has some experience with this – I’m installing a glass block window in the shower, about a 2×2 space, and I don’t know the best way to adhere the block together. I’ve heard thinset (leaves a visible line at all joints) or transparent silicon caulk (potentialy quite messy). Is there another product out there, or is the caulk method not as bad as it sounds? Thanks a lot for any help!

Bert, a 2x2 made up in a shop would run about 75 dollars here, banded and grouted. You might check out a Glass Block fabricator unless you just have to do it yourself. I've mortared block once and used the plastic spacers and urethane caulked it to simulate mortar joints. Both systems are doable but the easiest is to buy the unit strapped up and grouted, then you install correctly flashed and sealed in your opening.

I bought a 1 block X 8 block unit pre-made, just slipped it in and voila! Cost about $250 with tax and freight and all. And they were a non-stock pattern.
We have a local fabricator, price was not much. No freight. Standard swirl block, but a couple other styles available.__________________________________________

They do make a mortar specially designed for glass block. It is white, and the grit additive is silicon or something that is supposed to be a little more water resistant. It is easy to work with.
Use the spacers and glass block mortar. I've used glass block in a tile wall and just grouted it with the tile (cut the mortar back slightly from the face).
