I have the units made up to size, they are grouted and banded. I install that unit in a jamb already set in the opening.
3'x4' is pretty darn heavy using full size block. Make sure you get a poundage estimate b/4 you order this way.
Here's some info.

Wow! THanks calvin!!! .......... I'll work through all your information.
Are you talking about interior or exterior windows? Or maybe for a shower/bath. Different methods for all three. I use a plac e called the Glass Block Shop with locations in Dallas and San Antonio. Depending on the application I will either buy individual block or have them build a unit with frame. As noted by the other person, pre-built windows get heavy in a hurry. Supporting them in the wall is not usually a problem, but transportation and lifting them into place can be a chore.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
THanks Ed Hilton ........ I'll check out your sources. THey are for exterior windows.
The ones I get for exterior windows are factory made into a plastic/vinyl frame. it comes with a nailing fin and slips right into the opening like any other window. The down side is that the blocks are held in place with silicone caulk, which some people look down on ... they would much prefer mortared joints. If you decide to do it yourself, you need to buy special silicone or special mortar, both made specifically for glass block. The block supplier will have both. You can buy the block from HD-Lowes and they will have the silicone, but not usually the mortar. And they usually stock only one style of block, usually Decora. A block supplier will have 8-10 different styles. Someone mentioned 3 in vs 4 inch block ... the 4 inch is structural and must be used in certain applications.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
At HD, we have a video from Pittsburgh Corning that walks you thru 3 different installs. Pay attention to whether you need 3" or 4" block---Big Difference!
THank you wango ... I have ordered the video. Appreciate the suggestion.
Nothing about install, but a "new" to the US brand of block is Vetro Arredo. (Google will bring up this site.) These are superb. The clarity of glass is far better then the Corning. And they come in colors!
Jeff
Yeah, they do have some neat uses for glass block. I always wonder how much of a PITA a glass block shower wall would be to keep clean.

The reason so many people never get anywhere in life is because when opportunity knocks, they are out in the backyard looking for four-leaf clovers.-- Walter Percy Chrysler
I also have the units made to size, grouted and banded. Can't beat it. I seal the outside edges with white PL polyurethane window and door caulk/adhesive. It grips well, stays flexible, and it's paintable.
