Just got a quote for a glass windbreak to be erected around a patio; 1/2″ thick glass, 27″ high, set into an aluminum “toe” that accepts 3 inches of it; total of 60 feet of perimeter. Glass is not laminated, not self-cleaning, not covered in gold filagree.
The first quote was $24,700; about $11,000 in materials, the rest in labor to install and the foot rail fabrication.
Am I on drugs, or are they?

N.C.......I have installed ,used patio sliding glass doors both horizontal and vertical as wind breaks. With a little imagination and discussion the results are very good and the dollars are a LOT less. Takes some time to round up used materials but give you time to design.
Find a contractor who specialize in malls. His demoliton contractor is always breaking up tempered glass to throw away in the dumpster.
Or, buy a standard 8' wide sliding door and stand the frame on its side.
Those sound like rational ideas.
We'll look around a bit and see what we can come up; $25 k for a windbreak seemed like the famous "go away bid"
