Hc.......here in the northeast the going rate for hanging is around 10-to 12 $ a board and to tape it out (Finish)also can between 10 & 12 $ this would be based on 4x12x1/2 sheets.I will say rates vary considerably across the us but this is a ballpark figure for you to gauge... I might add that the NE is probably on yhe high end of the spectrum...........hope this helps you I,ve been in the drywall business for over 25 years as both a hanger and a finisher
I cannot believe the prices you are getting, here (Yukon) I pay .25 to board (screws are supplied) about $350.00 a house to load, and .72 for taping, all materials included except board, textured ceiling included round corners extra.. The boarder does the count and is usually pretty good. The two or three tapers in town have all the work they can handle.
but does he habla enlish?
didnt think so thanks for keepin us all in business hell ferget business just thanks for keepin us all in work
here- hangers 8' ceilings no stairs all that are right about $8 a board
finishers are all bidding 80 to 1.25 afoot
they get it and most every one speaks english couple of em speak thay ebonic crap but they dont stick aropund long enough to figure out what they said anyway
Considering what eggs and everything else in the North costs, I can't believe the prices you quoted. Twenty-five cents to hang a sheet of rock? Hell, I can't imagine that even in San Salvador, let alone the Yukon....
How much you pay for a liter of moo-juice at the market these days?Dinosaur

1200 sg ft two bedroom great room, I paid $1000 to finish only, after hours. three years ago
Dinosaur, I was quoting square footage prices.
Duh,,,,okay so it's $8.00 a sheet to hang. But I'd always heard labour rates in the North were much higher, and had to be because 80% of your consumables have to be flown in. Buddy of mine worked in Kuujuak for 9 months one time and came home with the equivalent of almost two years' wages (and a taste for seal blubber...).Dinosaur

$4.50 a sheet to hang (4x12) $4.50 to finish (knock-down texture) Texture guy get .95 a sheet. Labor only.
" Yo Kato Taco Bell!"
Some areas have only fly-in others have year around roads, winter roads and boats for delivering materials and supplies. The Yukon has roads to every community, except Old Crow, the famous Alaska Highway is one of them. The one element that drives prices up is the lack of competition, when you need something there is no where else to go. I hate Home Hardware they gouge. I have tried ordering material from Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton but it is so much easier to purchase locally and in the long run sometimes cheaper. Lumber supply companies get much better freight rates.Selection is not too bad and you can order just about anything.
Eastern arctic seems to have lots less roads to the outside world; probably due to less oil industry activity. In many northern Québec communities, the annual barge is the only way in for bulk supplies; all perishable stuff has to come in by air.
Still, sometimes I am tempted....

I"m sure you are quoting "per sq. ft." which for hanging board is industry standard
however .72 a sq ft for finishing is = to 34.56 a board (4x12x1/2) for a 200 board house that is = to 6912 $ WHERE DO i APPLY???
My notes tell me I paid the taper $6219.00 (GST in) for 1450 sqft finished on one floor and about 700 finished on the bottom with about another 800 just boarded (garage, unfinished rec room etc.). On top of that I paid for the board, 1/2" x 4x8= $12.16 plus GST, 1/2" x 4x10= 15.20 plus GST and so on.This was taping and ceiling texture only, priming was mine.Sign up in Whitehorse Yukon, you would probably be competitive for the first hour or so then fall in line with the rest.
This was taping, BOARDING, and texture only priming was mine.
I just did a 3'x2'ceiling
patch (smooth ceiling) for 150.00
so that is about 25.00 ft.
but that including material and
painting 8x10 closet where the repair was made.
So I'll take the repair work versus the new any day.
edited to add that it took 4 hrs

So excuse my ignorance.
There are two crews when it comes to drywall?
There is on crew that hangs it and leaves. Then there is another crew that does the taping? Do they both work for the same company? Im a bit confused that you guys are quoting two prices?? I thought that it would be one price for the job?

"Have you seen my baseball?"
Yes, it is usually split that way. Hanging by one crew, taping by the next.
Almost none of the drywall guys I know do the work on a materials and labor basis. For them, it is just labor. They are unwilling to buy the gypboard and mud, and their builder customers are unwilling to pay them any kind of margin on materials.
My regular guy has hangers and tapers, and he owns the spray gear to do the priming.
So, I pay him a "package" price, a little under $1 per sf, to hang, tape, and prime. I buy all materials, with screws and nails being the only exception.
The footage is determined by how many full boards get used to do the job. Thus, all those window and door cutouts, plus all the cutoff scrap, is part of "boards used."
What you want is a guy you can trust to maximize usage and minimize waste, but still do a job with a minimum of joints.
one rocker around here has 4 different crews...
well 4 diff. blends of the same guys.
Insulation, hangers, tapers and sanders.

Here in the mid west "Missouri" I am paying my Sub 1.15 a Sq Ft for material hanging and tapping.
Any of you guys or galls ever see your taper use dawn dish soap in their mudd? Mine dose it all the time he says it makes it smother.

When you say " $1.15 material, hanging and taping," do you mean gyproc also or is that extra?
yep, thats for every thing
Yes, we used to drop a little in there, it does make it go on smoother and reduce the craters.I used to use Ames tools and turn out 2 200 board houses a week by myself.$5 @ board here then
Western Chicago suburbs, $42per 5/8" sheet, glued, screwed, 3 coat all material furnished for remodel and renovation. $34 to $36 for new work. In the last several years the arch's are specing 5 grade or point, (5 coat, mud across the entire board) for high end custom work. Add $.12
I would think it would be quite a bit, a ball park is a big place and can use a lot of rock!
