Just looking for an estimate on the price for granite. I’m writing up a quote for a small bookcase with a slab of granite around 12″ x 60″. Midrange price, not high-end, not low-end. Installation will be by me.

to most granite shops that size would be almost considered waste.... so anything they could get for it would be good...
if it was $25 a sf as counter top material... when it was 5ft x 10ft then it should be a $50-$75 piece cut and finished for your size... it's found money to them at this point.... when you go shopping for it.... make sure you tell em you're looking for a "drop" about 12" x 60" in something nice... tell em you have $50 to spend and ask what they have for that $ figure... you might be surprised at what you get offered

If I was writing up a quote, I don't think I would make a guess on a Sunday nite. Rather make a call on Monday morning.
If I went to the guys I've used for a few granite jobs I might get a deal on the stone. But, there's the cutting, edgework and polishing to add to it.
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

I have extensive experience in the countertop business and I find nothing in Ponytl's post with which to disagree.
