Granite over a painted brick fireplace
I’d like to install granite tiles over my painted brick fireplace. Assumption is that any type of thinset will ultimately fail. An reason not to use 1/4″ backerboard screwed into the brick?
Thanks in advance.

Works for me but I'd put thinset between the backer board and the brick to eliminate air gaps. and then screw it down tight.

I might consider 1/2" but I do think backerboard is the way. Just did it as a base for tile over new firebrick.
