I have a recent shower installation with ceramic tile on two walls and the floor. Beautiful installation by a skilled craftsman, but the grout at the drain will not stay in place. There is a Sched 40 PVC drain line with an Otey strainer in the center of the shower and the tile is installed up to the drain line. This seam is where the grout will not adhere. I need suggestions on how to keep thsi seam waterproof and prevent water from getting below the tile.
Thanks in advance, Rick

Color matched (to grout) caulk from your tile store?

I attempted the repair myself with Pre-Mixed Grout form HD and followed instructions for cleaning and drying to a tee. Color not that important. I used white grout for new repair and the existing is a sand color.
Cal said caulk .. not grout.
anyways ... waterproof isn't a concern here .. if it was built correctly.
The drain should have weep holes to direct the water that will eventially get thru the tile/grout back into the drain.
that's why the rubber membrane is sandwiched between two layers of the mudbed ... the membrane is the waterproof part .. and it's well below the tile ... grout ... and top layer of the mudbed.
The grout may be crumbling because water is collecting there ...
do we know for sure the weep holes aren't plugged?
