Is there any pro/con when choosing aluminum over copper.
We are having our gutter replaced. It’s a flat roof so we are looking
at getting a flanged K style gutter.
Are there any major advantages going with the copper over the aluminum
or vise versa.
Alot of the roofing contractors have been pitching the aluminum saying it’s thicker but with acrylic paint need maintenance on them. I do like the look of “raw copper” but not the patina green against brick. Price is not a factor but these are the going rates in NYC –
$585 for a 16 foot 6″ flanged alum gutter, installed with about 20′ foot leaderpipe.
I was at my local building supply and inquired what’s the cost for just the material only – same spec but in copper, about $250 for the gutter and 3″ round corrugated.
Any advice..

alan - look at your runoff/leader discharge locations. Copper gutter/leader runoff will carry enough copper ions to kill off grass and damage plantings. Other than cost I think you get additional durability with copper. You won't get green patina for 30 years +.

If you don't specifically want the look of copper, save yourself some money and go with aluminum.

I'm also in NY (Cold Spring Harbor, LI). Copper most definatly looks the best by far. If there is a lot of water coming off the flat roof most definatly look into larger widths in gutter material and if there are a lot of trees look into that leaf guard product. Check out my website and if youre in the area I might drop by
Good luck
