I’m building a new home for my self, for a change. Just installed three sky lites yesterday. I got a call from a friend you have hail. Ok no joke golf ball size and larger. As i drove the last mile and a half to my new home all the skylites were blown in. some windows had baseball size holes in them. I held the roofers off today as it was to wet to finish painting the eves and soffit this morning. As i passed carpenter ct. and turned in to my drive way WOW I have glass. I drove around the subdivision all the plastic sky lites were busted and the glass ones were still intact. I stopped at one home i had built, three broken windows then off to my friend to see if they needed help before more rain came again. Three broken sky lites one window and a roof that looked as if someone had taken a ballpeen sp? hammer to it. So is there that much diffence in impact strength,or does uv damage plastic skylites at altitude ? We are about 6,500 ft. I never install cheap skylites. I tell the homeowner if they want me to warranty the product its gotta be one i can stand by.After all its my dime later. So as I always say SAVE A PENNY SPEND A DOLLER, LATER. I will look into what ones held up and what ones failed. I did notice the glass ones i saw were at differnt directions ie. north south ect. more later RS

This is why Skylights are a bad idea.Putting skylights in a house is like getting drunk and having sex with hookers. Both seem like good ideas and have several seductive benefits, but sooner or later the real dangers catch up with you.
Just Say No To Skylights.(even the best ones are just a leak waiting to happen)
Good Luck,Stephen
*"...like getting drunk and having sex with hookers..."I'll have to remember this one. I think "a penny saved is a dollar spent" is safer to say outside the trades!Richard, much sympathy. What a nightmare. We 'coasters hear stories about cattle-killing hail in the middle section but can't imagine what it's really like. I bet the skylights are cheaper to replace than the car windows!
*What I want to know, is there another way to spell ballpeen?
*what i want to know is.......i know where i can buy a sky light and how to install it.......i dont know where i can find a hooker to go with this beer.....well guess i will ask my wife for the answer
*i l-i-l-r-o-u-n-d-h-e-a-d-e-d-h-a-m-m-e-r ???
*Stephen,I've had similar concerns about skylights, a leak waiting to happen, but then I thought that if they were placed in a flat roof they might be the highspot.JonC
*Been nice knowin' ya!Rich Beckman
*Just tell your wife all that beer was for the hooker who was installing the skylight.Stephen
