I have to hang a pair of prehung doors (in a single jamb unit)soon and I am a little confused.Since normally when I hang a single door,I plumb and attach the hinge side and then shim out the strike side. However in this case there is no strike side and two hinge sides.any suggestions would be great.thanks, Dan

*A good starter bit of info is to temporarily nail/screw the door unit into the opening until you are sure it is all right. This way you can easily remove it to make changes without much effort or destruction. You can also add temporary braces onto the jambs so as to hold the unit square, then place it into the opening and level& plumb it before you secure it into place.Basically though, you need to verify that you have enough square, plumb and level opening within your rough opening, to accomodate your door unit.Have fun.Pete Draganic

*Plumb one jam in both directions. Square the head and the opposite jam. Put a pair strings across the unit from each top corner to opposite bottom corner. When they just meet in the middle the unit is in plane. Adjust the opposite jam to the framing, keeping the unit in plane. If the doors were hung properly they will then meet properly.

*If you hang the first door plumb (in both directions!) on the high side, then the second door can be adjusted as if the outside edge of the first door was the strike jamb for the second (if the first door is cut square). If, as Pete points out, there is enough space to accomodate the doors hung plumb and level, you're home free... I like the string too, it's kind of a hassle but then at least you know the opening isn't twisted at all. I'm still amateur enough that trial-and-error is a part of the process, but painstakingly checking the opening at the start is a huge help. What sort of latches or catches are you using? I have a pair of 2-0 doors with ball catches to put in -- just interested in other designs. Are both doors beveled, or do they open in a certain order??Living and learning, ad
