I read about the technique of hanging the boards in between ceiling joist and using plywood with poster board stapled to it to hide butt joints . It said the plywood should be the same thickness as the gypsum board being used why is that important or does it really matter ? if I were to use 3/4 inch plywood instead of 1/2 inch plywood for a ceiling hung with 1/2 in. gyp board.
