Subject : Peninsula Upper Cabinets Has any one found a reliable and certain way of hanging upper cabinets in the peninsula area? I have tried methods of adequate nailers and lags. I have also used an all thread method. I feel very uneasy about all those expensive treasured plates hanging by a few lags that were run through the carcass of the cabinet. Any comments would be appreciated.

I just hung some uppers over a peninsula last month. I built 1x4 reinforcing frames that sit flat on the tops of the cabinets, glued to the cabinet tops and screwed through the cabinet face frames. Lag bolted through the cabinet top, through the 1x4, through the ceiling and into the ceiling joist. This way the face frames themselves are attached to the joist, not just the cabinet top panels. Crown molding covers the exposed screw heads at the top of the face frames.
