I would like some ideas for installing wood shutters (painted pine) to the exterior of a shingled residence. Any ideas other than face screwing them and filling the holes would be of great help.

Nailman; You didn't say whether you want your wood shutters to be operational. (swinging.) If you do want them operational, (and I recommend it,) you should be able to buy ACME shutter hinges at any good hardware store or your building supply store should be able to order them for you. They add an authentic look to your shutters and enable you to lift them off whenever you need to wash or paint them. (Also handy for added security when your'e away on vacation or when hurricanes threaten. ( Living within 50 mi. of the gulf coast, I may give that more weight than you need to do.) If you don't care about hinging them, maybe screws or galvenized casing nails are your best bet.Good Luck; Steve D.
*Can't vouch for the quality of the hardware that Kestrel offers, but here's a start.Just don't hang the damn things backwards.

Thanks Mongo, I guess shutters can be kind of confusing not knowing if they will be operational or not. The shutters i will install are not, they are raised panels so I think i'll just face them to the wind and screw the damn things to the wall, then get the check. thanks......

nailman,
If you are going to direct mount them, I'd recommend mounting them on blocks to hold them off the wall a bit. The air circulation will be kind to both the siding and the shutters. Minor point, but consider orientng your blocks on a 45 degree bias (so they look like diamonds) to help any water that does get back there drain.
Minor points, but if you're going to do the work, every little bit helps...
